Curren$y Will Continue His 'Pilot Talk' Series With Help From Next-Gen Rappers
The NOLA legend talks about the new generation of hip-hop, his newest projects, working with Wiz Khalifa and much more.
MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. On our eighth episode, we sat down with NOLA legend Curren$y.
Spitta has had one of the most illustrious underground hip-hop careers ever. Being one of the OGs in the game who carved out a niche for himself, Curren$y has built up a cult following for over a decade. A relentless worker, Spitta’s music has inspired a ton of hip-hop’s young stars of the new generation. Regarding the new generation, Curren$y is pretty straightforward, if he likes you, he’s down to collab with you, no matter what the outside opinion is.
“I had everybody up in arms in my comments ’cause I fuckin’ put Yachty [on a song] but that’s fuckin’ the homie and I feel like he can rap,” he explains while relaxing at his shop on Canal Street in New Orleans. “Lil Yachty can rap, you have to listen to it. When you play it back and hear the structure of shit, dude can spit.”
For episode eight, Curren$y talks about taking a step back from music, the new generation of hip-hop, his latest projects, continuing the Pilot Talk series, working with Wiz Khalifa, his career path and so much more.
You can listen to Spitta’s recent EP with Harry Fraud, The Marina, right now.
