MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. On our sixth episode, we sat down with super producer Ronny J.

Born and raised in Camden, New Jersey, Ronny J packed up his things and moved to South Florida with little money to his name and without having any connections or family members in his new terrain. After the 25-year-old met and immediately clicked with Denzel Curry, he produced two of Curry’s breakout singles,  “Threatz” and “Ultimate.” Because of that success, Ronny J found himself in the studio with Smokepurpp, Lil Pump, XXXTentacion, Wifisfuneral, Bhad Bhabie and many more. By the stop of 2017, Ronny J waa=s soundtracking South Florida’s new generation’s rap music.

“When it came to Pump and Purpp, I just saw them turning on on Twitter. I just hit them up and I was like, ‘Yo, let’s just link up.’ I took my bike and computer to their crib and I made a beat and whatever. The first song we made was called ‘Kilo’ and we made that in their bedroom. After that, we dropped it, it went crazy, I think I dropped it on my SoundCloud and it went crazy. They saw it and they were like, ‘Oh Okay.’ They already knew about me already because I was fucking with Denzel [Curry], then they were like, alright bet, let’s just keep working.”

For Episode 6, Ronny J talks about moving from New Jersey to South Florida without knowing anyone, meeting Denzel Curry, Smokepurpp, Lil Pump and XXXTentacion, developing his sound, signing a major label deal with Atlantic Records, and so much more.
