Summary

  • THE SKATEROOM unveils its collaborative collection with British photographer Martin Parr, one of the final collaborations created with the artist prior to his passing
  • The collection features two limited-edition items: a “Benidorm (Goggles)” single deck and “The Ocean Dome, Miyazaki, Japan, 1996” triptych

“I have a long-established affection for the beach as a place to photograph,” Martin Parr once wrote. “People can really be themselves as they sunbathe, play, swim and relax.” For 30 years, the British photographer used waterfronts as his “human laboratory” — a place to sound out the absurd, funny and beautiful contradictions of humanity that underpinned his practice.

THE SKATEROOM honors Parr’s legacy with Sunburnt Leisure, Lasting Images, one of the the final collaborative collaborations personally approved by Parr before his passing last year, channeling his love for sun and sand in a limited-edition lineup.

The two pieces on deck include “Benidorm (Goggles),” a cinematic close-up rendered in rich Mediterranean blues, and “The Ocean Dome” triptych. Taken in Miyazaki, Japan in 1996, the latter is considered one of Parrvs most striking explorations of “manufactured escapism” as hundreds gather to ride an indoor wave simulator, adorned with an artificial shore, blue sky and palm trees.

Created in close collaboration with the DMB and the artistvs namesake foundation, the collection comes emblazoned with a bespoke, holographic sticker of authentication, featuring a portrait of Parr and his signature.

“Continuing this release together with the Martin Parr Foundation felt less like a decision than a responsibility: to celebrate the vitality, humor and cultural sharpness that defined his work and legacy,” THE SKATEROOM wrote.

Limited to an edition of 200, the “Benidorm (Goggles)” single deck is available for $149 USD. “The Ocean Dome, Miyazaki, Japan, 1996” triptych, at $429 USD, is limited to 100. Head to the brand’s webstore to check it out.
