On September 21, HBK superstar P-Lo’s official DJ Cal-A plans to drop his debut studio album Fake Pop. Currently on G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert, YBN Nahmir, Ty Dolla $ign’s “Endless Summer” tour, the “Vibes” producer adds to em>Fake Pop’s promotional campaign by dropping a new single in support of the project.

Known as “Being Yourself,” Cal-A’s latest major record pairs his tropical-inflected, Bay-reared beats with Marc E. Bassy‘s radio-ready vocals.

“I’ve known Marc for 4 years now on some Bay Area shit and we’ve talked about making music together but nothing ever came to life,” Cal-A says, breaking down “Being Yourself” and how it came to life. “I pulled up on him at a Hollywood studio a couple months ago and he only had like 45 minutes left in his session, I pulled the beat up for ‘Being Yourself’ and he freestyled the melodies and finished it in less than an hour. Marc is extremely soulful and has a crazy pen. Combined with the tropical drums and jazzy piano, we created a vibe that neither of us had tapped in with before.”
