Pharrell has partnered up with Spotify as a curator of the streaming service’s annual “Black History Is Happening Now” campaign. For this project, the “Lemon” rapper will curate multiple playlists that spotlight his musical influences. Along with the playlists, there will be original videos featuring Pharrell talking about his views on culture and society. According to a press release, the program was launched to “celebrate and amplify the voices of Black artists, creators, and organizations year-round.”
Today, three videos were released, including oen that features Pharrell. Directed by Paul Hunter, the videos are titled “Something Awakening,” “A Very Serious Force” and “Influence & Inspiration.” The first talks about love and hate, the second about how the producer believes that Black women will save the world. At the moment, the campaign’s Spotify hub has playlists featuring music of Rihanna, Solange, Teyana Taylor and SZA. A section named Pharrell’s “Inspirations” includes playlists featuring Hans Zimmer, Missy Elliott, Prince, A$AP Mob and more.
