Artist Creates $66,000 USD Conor McGregor Sculpture for the MMA Fighter's 30th Birthday
Hyper-realistic.
Conor McGregor‘s birthday is coming up this weekend, and to celebrate Lithuanian artist/sculptor Edgar Askelovic (aka Aspencrow) has created a sculpture for the championed fighter.
Worth £50,000 GBP (approximately $66,400 USD), the statue has been chiseled with incredible detail out of marble and silcone and weighs 224 pounds. Askelovi spent five months handcrafting the statue, looking at photographs alone.
Known as “Atlas,” the hyper-realistic sculpture will be on display at London’s JD Malat Gallery from July 14 (McGregor’s birthday) until September 30, which will then be gifted to McGregor. Askelovi told BBC he plans on making two more versions, one to be put up for sale and the other for future exhibitions. Askelovi went on to state:
“It is an honour Conor has accepted this as a gift from me. He is a phenomenon of our time — not just a smart athlete, but also a visionary. I think he’s a phenomenon. It’s normal that someone decided to immortalise him in this way. It’s up to you what you see in it. You can see him as a prisoner, or a God, or just as a person. I like Conor McGregor — he’s a great guy. I feel he’s my soulmate.”
