New York’s Museum of Modern Art highlights the formidable concrete structures of Yugoslavian modernist architecture. Titled “Toward a Concrete Utopia,” the exhibition features over 400 works. including photographs, models, drawing and films of architecture in Yugoslavia from 1948 to 1980 — a period of intensive reconstruction following the country’s break from the Soviet bloc.

During this period, urban planners sought out ambitious and experimental projects, resulted in stunning concrete monuments and radical brutalist structures such as “spomeniks.” These otherworldly constructions were instrumental in shaping Yugoslavia’s national identity.

MoMA’s “Toward a Concrete Utopia” will be on display until January 13, 2019. Check out some images of the exhibition above.

For more art content, a giant NASA space blanket installation is planned to cover this year’s Burning Man festival.
