Following strong recent showings from SHIRT and HOMME Plus, COMME des GARÇONS HOMME returns with a range not too far removed from its Fall/Winter 2018 presentation. Purportedly still under the direction of Junya Watanabe and his team, the new collection repurposed signature HOMME detailing — New Balances, subverted suiting, jacquard patterns and relaxed fits.
Outerwear appeared throughout the collection, with wrinkled blazers, parkas and wide trousers all executed in lightweight textiles, particularly sturdy cotton twill. Grid & stripe patterns were complemented by square appliqué, or divided into different panels, with each offered in a contrasting color to break up otherwise-conventional styling. Some striped shirts sported solid green color blocking at the chest, occasionally accented by patchwork detailing, which carried over onto select jackets in the form of jagged geometric shapes. Meanwhile, adjustable functionality granted the clothing distinction from past releases, with zippered kangaroo pockets accentuating shirts and jackets offering internal waist-tightening drawcords or pulls at the hems and collar.
