Burning Man Festival's Giant Orb Installation Nearly Complete
Will probably be the most impressive work at the festival.
Bjarke Ingels, founder of architecture studio Bjarke Ingels Group, and Jakob Lange, head of the company’s special projects studio, have announced plans for a giant reflective orb installation. The inflatable orb, which will be part of this year’s Burning Man festival, is a 1:500,000 scale representation of the earth and has a diameter of over 25 meters.
The idea behind the design is that it will reflect the community beneath it, while its reflective surface will help it blend into the night. The orb is nearly complete, with BIG Ideas funding the majority of the structure and the work that has so far gone into it. To raise the last $50,000 USD, the studio is offering perks ranging from postcards to private tours of the orb in exchange for donations. Head to the project’s Indiegogo page for more information.
