The same day Kanye West released his open two-hour interview with Charlamagne tha God, the Chicago rapper paid a visit to TMZ for a live interview in which tempers were flared — ‘Ye touched on the history of American slavery and suggested that African Americans conceded.
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years: For 400 years, that sounds like a choice,” West said. “You was there for 400 years, and it’s all of y’all?” He added, “It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, Holocaust. Holocaust, Jews. Slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race. We’re the human race,” he continued.
TMZ’s Van Lathan, however, confronted Kanye about his comments during the video, lamenting that the rapper’s facts and rhetoric are dangerous and wrong. “I actually don’t think you’re thinking anything,” Lathan proclaims. He continued to address West: “While you are making music and being an artist and living a life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats in our lives. We have to deal with the marginalization that has come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a choice.”
Yeezy also told TMZ that he became addicted to opioids after he got liposuction. The addiction is what led to his 2016 breakdown, when he was hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center. He revealed that when he met with Donald Trump at Trump Tower in 2016, he was “drugged the f*ck out, bro!” ‘Ye continued to take opioids during his Pablo tour:
Two days before I was in the hospital I was on opioids. I was addicted to opioids. I had plastic surgery because I was trying to look good for y’all! I got liposuction because I didn’t want y’all to call me fat like y’all called Rob at the wedding and made him fly home before me and Kim got married. I didn’t want y’all to call me fat! So I got liposuction, and they gave me opioids.
