Samsung Patents Video Chat via 3D AR Emoji
Apparently, it’s not a response to Apple’s Animoji.

A patent revealed last week has sparked rumors that Samsung’s AR Emoji were created to contend with bandwidth issues during live videos. According to PatentlyMobile, Samsung saw no fix in the foreseeable future for the high bandwidth needed to send, receive, and stream live videos.
The patent reads: “Existing video communication systems typically require high bandwidth and are inherently high latency as entire image sequences need to be generated and compressed before transmitting the signal to another device.” Although AR Emoji can’t be used to video chat, its tech could make use of avatars through video instead of direct face-to-face conversation.
In related news, the Samsung’s DeX Pad is now available for preorder.
