What started off as a special project from watchmaker Jaquet Droz, has now been fully perfected. Teased in 2014 for the brand’s 280th anniversary, the automaton “Signing Machine” is a pocket-sized mechanical machine — complete with a 4-digit numeric code — that will sign the owners signature to exact specification each time. Made with 585 parts, the Jaquet Droz is only available made-to-order, and will be customized to the purchaser’s personal specifications, with hand-engraved finishes in red gold, blackened hard wood and satin-metal. When fully wound, the “Signature Machine” is capable of two full signatures, and just in case you are worried about the mechanical power reserve running out mid-signature, there’s a power reserve indicator at the back.

As with most works of art Jaquet Droz produces, this automaton is not cheap. With a starting price of $367,500 USD, you can believe that those considering owning this automatic signing machine have some serious money in the bank. For more complicated pocket-sized machinery, HYT introduces its liquid display H0 x Eau Rouge watch.
