Chance The Rapper & Common Honored With Murals in South Side Chicago

“What we wanted to do was put these images out there of role models from the community who have gone outside the community to do good things.”

Two of South Side Chicago’s own, Chance The Rapper and Common are being honored with painted murals in the South Side of Chicago according to The Columbia Chronicle. The artist behind it, Chris Devins painted them in the Chatham section of the South Side of Chicago as part of the “Chatham 2.0” arts project. “I’m looking to counter the constant negative imagery put out by the corporate media,” Devins says. Devins began the paintings in April of last year when the city decided the South Side area of the city needed more positive images in order to help cultivate positivity and hope. “The perception outside of the community—and even within the community—is that nothing good is going on,” says Eiran Feldman, the owner of First InSite Realty, which commissioned Devins. “What we wanted to do was put these images out there of role models from the community who have gone outside the community to do good things.” You can check out some of the imagery above.
