Adam Lister & Ted Lincoln Celebrate 'Star Wars' Day With Upcoming Exhibition
May the 4th.
For this year’s upcoming Star Wars Day — Friday, May the 4th — Black Book Gallery will be holding an exhitbion titled “Impressive Most Impressive” featuring works from New York-based artist Adam Lister and Ted Lincoln.
The works, which of course are inspired by the hit sci-fi franchise, will include iconic imagery and characters from the film including Darth Vader, the Death Star, Boba Fett, stormtroopers, and AT-ATs. Lister serves up his signature watercolor paintings, mimicking 8-bit color graphics normally found in retro/classic video games, while Lincoln displays his work on large pieces of hardwood — including cypress, cedar and camphor — inlaid with mother of pearl.
“The shining, playful, and reflected light of mother of pearl has attracted the attention of human beings since the beginning of the world. Societies, tribes, and nations have all added the technology of their day to their experience, knowledge, and understanding, and they have turned mother of pearl from one form into another,” Lincoln says of his work. On the other hand, Lister states, “I choose to work with watercolor because I’m drawn to the hand- made and transparent qualities of the paint itself. I also find the juxtaposition of rigid drawing and soft washes of color to be an interesting combination.”
The two-man “Impressive Most Impressive” Star Wars-themed exhibition opens this Friday, May 4 and runs until Thursday, May 31. An opening reception will also be held with artists in attendance from 7-9 p.m. (GMT-6). The event will be free and open to the public. Head over to Black Book Gallery’s website for more info.
