After images of Virgil Abloh‘s take on the Nike Mercurial football boot emerged earlier this month, the brand has now given an official look at the collaboration. The cleats come in a bright orange colorway, with a range of classic Virgil touches including phrases in quote marks — “FAST AF” — and Off-White™ for Nike branding on the boot’s medial side.
Another key feature of the design is two dots in blue and white which Abloh explains “represent an optimal place to strike the ball.” Abloh has also discussed other influences for the boot, including another focus for the design: “In my approach, I thought what it be like if I saw someone wearing the boot. Design is a powerful tool, as it communicates energy and a message, and it offers a unique capacity to make someone do a double take on-pitch — I feel like it would be intimidating to see this boot.” The Virgil Abloh x Nike Mercurial Vapor 360 will be worn by French wonderkid Kylian Mbappé for the first time on March 31, with limited pairs dropping via the Nike web store on the same day.
