New 'Cobra Kai' Trailer Features the Karate Kid as the Bad Guy
A washed martial artist’s fight for redemption.
Originally penned by the creative forces behind Hot Tub Time Machine and pitched as a comedy, the newest trailer for the forthcoming Karate Kid sequel series, Cobra Kai has a more earnest approach. Despite the tongue-in-cheek rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence 34 years later, the series appears to touch on similar themes of its predecessor such as standing up for what’s right, discipline, and an old sensei spouting “back in my day” rhetoric.
The story follows Lawrence as he takes on a disciple while re-opening a new Cobra Kai dojo, which LaRusso, now a car dealer, takes umbrage with. Check out the trailer above and look out for Cobra Kai when it debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24 before premiering on YouTube Red May 2.
