Bad Brains Inspires DELUXE Spring/Summer 2018
The Japanese label draws cues from the skate-punks.

Japanese imprint DELUXE is well-regarded for blending tailoring with skate-inspired looks, blurring the line between the casual and the formal. For Spring/Summer 2018, the brand upgrades its laid-back looks with the energy of Washington, D.C. punk band Bad Brains.
The harcore band’s “PMA” and “POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE” slogans appear printed on the rear of outerwear and come accented with the brand’s signature lightning bolts. Accompanying the branding is aesthetically-appropriate detailing like patches, pins and even some more subtle nods; for instance, “DELUXE2003” embroidery on the neck of a T-shirt is executed in a Bad Brains-style font. Elsewhere, the brand’s appreciation for Jamaican ska and reggae is referenced with checkerboard patterns. Elsewhere DELUXE’s usual relaxed style is informed by cropped work jackets, spread collar shirts and oversized, lightweight trench coats.
Shop the range when it hits DELUXE’s web store and stockists in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, fellow Japanese label Sasquatchfabrix. was recently tapped by Brain Dead for a collaborative capsule.
