Melii Explains Her Recording Process While in the Studio
She also discusses her early beginnings and making “Icey.”
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with Melii, the Harlem Dominican rapper who broke out earlier this year with her hit single “Icey.” Fresh off her scene-stealing feature on “Wit The Shits (W.T.S)” off Meek Mill’s new album Championship, Melii comes by the office to discuss her early beginnings in making music, making her viral single “Icey” and how she determines if she wants to sing or rap on records.
“I rap when I’m angry,” she says while laughing. “I go into the studio and I rap when I’m angry or I feel like getting shit off my chest ’cause I’m the type of person that when I get mad, I talk fast. It just comes to me more quicker when I’m upset.”
The 20-year-old rapper got her start after her remix of Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” went viral, which led to a record deal with Interscope. She later got a major boost when Rihanna shared the rapper’s hit “Icey” single during a Fenty Beauty product preview on Instagram in May. Most recently, she released her new track “COMO SI NA,” an all-Spanish track that showcases her versatility.
