Good Charlotte Releases Studio Version of Lil Peep's "Awful Things"
After performing it live at Peep’s memorial service.
During Lil Peep’s Long Beach, New York memorial, pop-punk band Good Charlotte performed a tribute cover of Peep’s “Awful Things.” Now Good Charlotte, led by Joel Madden, has released a studio version of the track. Listen to the Good Charlotte cover of Lil Peep‘s “Awful Things” above.
In the description of their “Awful Things” YouTube video, Good Charlotte wrote:
“Every now and then a new artist comes along, who you know is sure to change music. Lil’ peep was one of those artists. We were excited to find out that we shared a love of the same bands, and that he was a fan of GC. We looked forward to the possibility of touring together in the new year, and were excited to share our stories and maybe even make some music together.”
“There is a feeling of hope and rebellion in his music, for everyone who feels like they might not fit in, that we relate to and that shares a kinship to what gc [Good Charlotte] has always been about. This rendition of “Awful Things” was done with love, for Peep, his family, friends and fans, to celebrate his life, talent and career and we hope everyone enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it. Thanks for all the love you shared, Peep. You are missed, but through your art you will live forever.”
Madden, who was a “big fan” of the Peep told Cleveland-based music mag Alternative Press that a collaboration between Good Charlotte and Peep was in the works just before Peep’s death:
“We had just started talking to Peep’s whole team about collaborating on a tour or something, literally two weeks before he died. We were big fans. Obviously when he passed away, we had already had a conversation started. They knew we were big fans, and he had said he was a fan of ours, so there was a lot of mutual love there.”
