Surviving Members of Nirvana Reunite During Foo Fighters Encore
They performed for almost thirty minutes.
Saturday night (Oct. 6) towards the end of the Foo Fighters concert at the San Bernadino Cal Jam music festival, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Deer Tick guitarist and singer John McCauley plus Joan Jett joined Dave Grohl on stage to perform a nearly half-hour long set of Nirvana‘s greatest hits. Joan Jett was one of the Kurt Cobain stand-ins, along with McCauley. Jett covered three songs, “Breed,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “All Apologies.”
This wasn’t the first time Grohl, Novoselic, and a variety of singers have performed Nirvana records together. They performed at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony along with Jett, Lorde, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon in 2014. They’ve also performed in a benefit concert and joined Paul McCartney on Saturday Night Live.
Back in January, Tacoma musician John Purkey uploaded rare Nirvana demo tapes from the 1980s; over two hours worth of music can be heard, including early recordings that later turned into the band’s 1989 debut studio album, Bleach.
