New Balance Debuts 'Evangelion'-Themed Runners
A trio of impactful Fresh Foam Cruz models.
After teaming up with affordable Japanese retailer GU, Evangelion introduces a trio of mecha-inspired New Balance silhouettes. The Fresh Foam Cruz silhouette sports three different makeups directly influenced by the colors worn by the anime’s giant robots.
Referencing the Evangelion Unit-01, Unit-02 and Unit-03 models, the first two styles (FIRST and SECOND IMPACT) boast bold, colorful detailing, including blue/yellow/red or grey/red/yellow uppers and midsoles. The THIRD IMPACT does away with the mismatched accents on the medial and lateral sides; instead, it juxtaposes muted black and grey hues with a speckled midsole. Thematic prints on the midsoles and outsoles feature jargon taken from the show (like “EVA-08” and “EVA 01 – TEST TYPE”), complemented by the logo of the NERV organization on the tongue.
