Vans Cools Off the Flame Style 36 Sneaker With Black Colorway
An understated take on the hot shoe.

The flame sneaker trend heated up in 2018, with Vans‘ fire-emblazoned skate shoes influencing a wave of subsequent designs, including a thematic WTAPS collaboration and Palm Angels’ high-end take on the style. Though it may have cooled, the Californian skate company has introduced a sleek take on the summer’s hottest shoe: the Flame Style 36 “Black.”
Unlike prior iterations, which sported orange and red flames emblazoned on each side of the sneaker, this Flame Style 36 features a monochrome colorway fitting for the cooler autumn temperatures. Layered black panels add depth to the muted black-and-white design, complementing the white canvas base with a matching midsole and laces. The Style 36’s rubber toecap, a holdover of the retro design, both boosts the sneaker’s sturdiness and breaks up the all-black vamp.
