Kevin Durant brought back some true NBA nostalgia with the recent pre-season game between the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors — held in Seattle’s KeyArena. Paying respect to the Seattle SuperSonics (now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder), the team that drafted him second overall in 2007, Durant arrived to the game sporting a Shawn Kemp jersey while wearing a custom pair of Nike Cortez sneakers.
Sure to stir-up emotions for anyone who closely followed the Seattle SuperSonics during the Payton/Kemp/Schrempf/Hawkins-era, this rare pair of player-edition Nike Cortez features Durant’s initials and number at the heel, the team’s Seattle Space Needle logo embroidered at the back, a custom lace deubré, Space Needle graphics on the insole, and a “1967 – Infinity” tongue patch. Conceived by Nike footwear designer, and Seattle-native, Ben Kirschner, these pair of emerald-and-white Nike Cortez “Seattle SuperSonics” are the perfect tribute to the once Western conference powerhouse.
