Nissan Wants You to Stay at a Hotel Where Slippers Park Themselves
Using the auto brand’s ProPilot Park technology.
An inn in Hakon, Japan is utilizing self-parking slippers developed by Nissan for guests to use upon arrival. The slippers use Nissan’s ProPilot Park technology, two small wheels, sensors, and a motor to navigate as well as park itself. This technology is used in the automaker’s latest electric Leaf vehicle, however, a simplified version was created for the slippers.
Guest rooms feature floor cushions and traditional low tables that also wheel themselves into place as well. “The self-parking slippers are meant to raise awareness of automated driving technologies, and their potential, non-driving applications,” Nissan spokesman Nick Maxfield said. Nissan will offer a free night at the Ryokan for two contestants, who must post on Twitter using the hashtags #PPPRyokan and #wanttostay between January 25 and February 10 for their March trip. For more information about the free stay, visit Nissan’s official site.
