One of Nike SB‘s first Australian skaters, the late Lewis Marnell single-handedly owned the Melbourne skate scene before his tragic passing from complications with diabetes back in January of 2013. Now, five years later, the Swoosh is paying homage to an Aussie legend by crafting a special Marnell-inspired rendition of the mid-top Dunk. Opting for a rugged work boot-like look, the wheat-colored kicks not only offer up premium construction, but sport nods to Marnell throughout — including the skater’s signature lion graphic.
“Lewis skated Dunks all the time. He made them look so fresh, that we all wanted to own them so we could look the same,” remembers Shane O’Neill.
Marnell’s Dunk Mid is set to hit SB spots on January 18 for $100 USD. And best of all? To coincide with the release, Nike has made a donation to a non-profit foundation for the benefit of diabetes research “in honor of Lewis and what he meant to the skate community and Nike SB family.”
