After the creation of numerous playlists on the streaming service by artists, affiliates, and fans alike, Spotify has finally recognized the UK-based genre of grime as an identifiable catalog amongst other music categories.
Grime had a strong year in 2017 with major releases from Skepta, Stormzy, and other MCs. Its recognition and interest from mainstream listeners have helped push the genre to the forefront. Spotify’s decision to list the sub-genre amongst the ranks of other categories solidifies its staying power.
