Christian Dada Fall/Winter 2018 Salutes David Lynch

A collaboration with Kappa is at the heart of the range.

Masanori Morikawa’s ascending Japanese label Christian Dada references iconic director David Lynch both overtly and subtly in its Fall/Winter 2018 collection, with items ranging from retro suiting to revised Americana.

References to Lynch stretch from printed words to outfits styled like costumes in the designer’s filmography. Roses — a Romanticist motif seen occasionally in Lynch’s work — crop up throughout the collection as accessories; one blue rose pin is a direct nod to Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Elsewhere, quotes from Twin Peaks appear on scarves and T-shirts, while film titles like Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet appear as prints on shirts and outerwear. Christian Dada’s love of rock music informs some of the items — like a shoulder bag shaped like a guitar pedal — and its deconstructionist attitude is realized through raw hems and patchwork denim. Meanwhile a collaboration with Kappa yields side-line pants, retro prints and sportswear detailing.
