Packer Shoes & J.Crew Unveil the ASICS GEL-Lyte III "1907" Collection
Packer celebrates over a century of business.
Believe it or not, Packer Shoes has been in business for over a century — the original Packer location opened its doors in Yonkers back in 1907 before eventually relocating to Teaneck. So, in celebration of its 110-year anniversary, New Jersey’s go-to sneaker spot has joined forces with J.Crew and ASICS to put a special spin on the beloved GEL-Lyte III. Aptly dubbed the “1907” collection, the premium four-pack takes cues from the dress shoes Packer stocked when it originally opened, thus creating a luxurious limited-edition take on ASICS’s split-tongued retro runner. Said owner Mike Packer of the collab:
There were so many other great colorways and ideas that we had left on the creative cutting room floor when working on the “Dirty Buck” that we always felt there was more to be done with the concept. With our 110th year anniversary approaching, we thought that telling this story with a partner like J.Crew was not only outside the realm of what traditional retail is used to, but also a natural fit in terms of celebrating the idea of timeless menswear cornerstones.
Dropping alongside a corresponding range of caps from New Era, the “1907” GEL-Lyte IIIs will debut with a staggered two-day drop — oxblood leather and white buck colorways followed by navy buck and charcoal suede — beginning this Thursday, September 28, at J.Crew’s Liquor Store in New York City before hitting J.Crew and Packer on Saturday, September 30.
