Elon Musk Suggests That SpaceX's “BFR” Could Be Used for Earth Travel
Hong Kong to New York in under an hour.
According to Tesla founder Elon Musk, the aptly named “BFR” — that can fly at a maximum speed of 18,000 mph — would be able to transport people to any destination on Earth in less than sixty minutes. Musk unveiled his latest idea during a recent speech at the 68th International Astronautical Congress 2017 in Adelaide, Australia, where he also debuted new plans for SpaceX‘s plans for Mars and Lunar missions. Musk stated that most “Earth to Earth” commutes could take place in under half an hour.
The Big F**king Rocket, subtly codenamed “BFR,” is SpaceX’s upcoming rocket after the Falcon Heavy that Musk hopes will be launched before the year is out. Dissimilar to its predecessors, the BFR will be completely reusable and capable of refueling while in space, which is essential if the rocket is to achieve Musk’s aims of resupplying the ISS, landing on the moon, and to start sending missions to Mars by 2022.
