adidas Reimagines Classic Pieces for Its Latest SPEZIAL Collection
With a lookbook starring British drum & bass legend Goldie.
Since its launch back in 2014, adidas’ SPEZIAL line has celebrated the brand’s legacy and brought iconic and innovative pieces back from the the archives. For its fall/winter 2017 collection, the line has reimagined some classic apparel and footwear pieces, putting its own twist on some of adidas’ most significant silhouettes.
The footwear offering in this capsule sees a number of silhouettes given the SPEZIAL treatment. This includes the Super Tobacco model, which comes with a T-toe overlay and elements from the Bermuda silhouette, as well as the archival Intack and Spiritus models that are updated with premium materials and bright colorways. Other sneaker releases in this collection see a new iteration of the Wensley SPZL silhouette, which comes with new suede and nylon touches as well as tooling from the Samba model, as well as new colorways of the leather Lacombe SPZL. For the fall/winter 2017 collection, SPEZIAL has also updated two archive running silhouettes — the 1970s TRX and the hiking-meets-winter running Winterhill silhouette.
For the apparel range SPEZIAL has reinvented classic cuts, with the archive bomber jacket silhouette being reworked into the Abenstein Jacket — which comes with a reversible construction and PrimaLoft insulation. Other pieces include a reimagined workwear jacket, a lightweight down vest, a brand new tracksuit and a capsule of graphic T-shirts inspired by archive adidas catalog artwork. To launch the collection, adidas SPEZIAL has tapped British drum and bass icon Goldie for a lookbook shot by SHOWstudio’s Nick Knight. The collection is set to drop on September 22 from select retailers including END.
This isn’t the first time that adidas SPEZIAL has mixed music and fashion for its lookbook, with the brand’s spring/summer 2017 collection being modelled by Jamaican reggae artist Chronixx.
