Mo Farah Recites Inspiring Poem as We Get a Look at His Grueling Training Regime
In support of Mo earning gold and silver at the IAAF Championships in London.
One of the greatest distance runners of all time, Mo Farah, teamed up with longtime sponsor Nike, as well as the award-winning ad agency Wieden+Kennedy, to produce the above one-minute film, titled Smile. Set in his hometown of London, Mo showcases his grueling training regime while reciting a beautiful heartfelt poem, written by London-born spoken-word artist George the Poet. Here’s the breakdown of said poem:
You smiled a smile that made it look easy.
Made people stop and stare.
The happiness you felt you gave it so freely
They would never guess what got you there. To be precise I mean the sleepless nights, I mean the
Uphill struggle to the steepest heightsAnd in that space of your lonely performance
Suddenly you become your own reassurance
That’s when you realise you don’t need assurance –
Only endurance. You fought through the darkest hours of the night.
So this is light work, the power is in the mind. Now you’re adorned in the glory of the final mile.
And it’s all in the story behind your smile.
Smile was released to support Mo’s efforts in winning his second gold at this year’s IAAF Championships in London. You can watch him compete in the finals of the 5000m race this Saturday, August 12 at 8:20 p.m. GMT.
