French Montana Spent $300K USD on the Music Video For "Unforgettable"
High risk, high reward.
Ranking at Number Five on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and selling 7 million albums worldwide, French Montana’s “Unforgettable” single with Swae Lee has definitely been the biggest hit for the Moroccan-American artist. For the visuals to the single, Montana flew to Uganda after stumbling upon a video of African kids dancing barefoot in rocky, mud terrain while watching his favorite African artist Cheb Hasni on YouTube. Originally born in Morocco, Montana felt right at home while shooting for the music video. However, in a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Montana revealed that he had to pay “$300,000 USD out of [his] own pocket” in addition to the same amount paid by his label Epic Records to clear the song’s sample, as the label was not interested in neither funding for the clearance or filming the music video. But Montana was determined to shoot “Unforgettable” in Uganda to reminisce those “unforgettable” moments when little Montana lived in poverty and could be happy with nothing.
