Vintage News Footage Shows That Apple Leaks Have Been Happening Since 1988
Before the Digital Age we know today.
Apple garners a large following for its ultra sleek designs, but the tech giant drives just as much traffic with its leaks and rumors. Whether these leaks are actual slip-ups or intentional marketing schemes, Apple rumors have been part of the industry giant’s narrative before the Internet Age gave way to blogs and social media outlets.
Recently, a video of vintage news footage shows that dedicated Apple-related news outlets have been in existence for decades. The clip, which originally aired in February of 1988, shows late computing industry media pioneer David Bunnell’s weekly print news series Macintosh Today, which covered Apple’s latest developments.
In this episode, the news publication had gotten its hands on a 160-page confidential Apple document on the Macintosh Portable (Apple’s first mobile computer) before its official announcement in November of that year. At one instance, the anchors question if the leak was, in fact, a promotional ploy by Apple.
