Saint Alfred Takes Us Through Chicago and the Design Process for Its Vans Authentic and Era
Inspired by timeless classics and functional surplus.
Following up our first video installment with Brain Dead, Vans teams up with Chicago-based retailer Saint Alfred on an Era collaboration for Summer 2017. For over 12 years, the Saint Alfred squad — Frank DiGiovanni, David Robinson, and Joseph Schaefer — have brought together and curated international brands and coveted sneakers, including their in-house apparel label, to the Chicago space. While the Saint Alfred team has had a deep appreciation for Vans since the ’90s, in 2016, the sneaker purveyor seized the opportunity to revamp the iconic Old Skool silhouette and deconstructed it in a finished canvas and placed Morse code on the outer soles of the shoe. In 2017, they were at it again, reworking the OG Era with revamps using mixture of check and pinstripe patterns on the toe and heel.
Watch our segment with Joseph Schaefer and the Saint Alfred team as they talk about the collaboration’s fashion sensibility and their love for Vans’ timeless aesthetic.
