Walmart Wants to Sell $25 Million USD Worth of Light-Up Sneakers
They’re putting bets on the trend.

At Walmart‘s annual shareholder meeting last week, chief merchandising officer Steve Bratspies stepped on stage wearing a pair of light-up sneakers to announce the company’s investment in the bold footwear trend. Specifically, Walmart expects to sell $25 million USD worth of these LED light sneakers.
Walmart’s light-up sneakers can be charged using a USB cord that connects to phones and computers, and has a battery life of up to 8 hours. Customers can pick up the sneakers in gray, white, black or glittery pink for a price of $19.97 USD beginning in July.
Referring to the fact that other brands are selling similar light-up sneakers for $60 USD, Bratspies states, “We beat on price, don’t we? Every day, we beat on price.” For $19.97 USD a pair, that means Walmart would have to sell 1.25 million pairs to hit its sales estimate.
