Neill Blomkamp's New 'Volume 1' Trailer Nods to '80s Sci-Fi Classics
When dealing with aliens, try to be polite, but firm.
Following on from the first official teaser released last month, Neill Blomkamp‘s Oats Studios has dropped a second trailer for the director’s new anthology film series Volume 1. Cut at speed and featuring gunfire, aliens, and skinless bodies aplenty — or, in its own words, “more weird shit” — the one-minute trailer harks back to a golden age of Hollywood sci-fi, with notes of Total Recall and Predator while maintaining the rougher edges of Blomkamp’s style that made District 9 a critical hit and cult classic.
Coming hot on the heels of 2015’s Chappie, Volume 1 not only marks Blomkamp’s next major cinematic work, but also the first endeavour from the South African-Canadian auteur’s newly-opened Oats Studios — a production company with a simple vision, its website simply reading “We make experimental short films.”
