Luke and Lucie Meier's First Collections for Jil Sander Rejuvenate the House's Design DNA
Statement pieces that are bold and timeless.
Design-inclined power couple Luke and Lucie Meier have just presented their first collections for Jil Sander at Milan Fashion Week Men’s. The fledgling creative directors for the minimalist German label have produced two no-frills assemblages: 2018 spring/summer men’s and 2018 Women Resort. Both menswear and womenswear portions dominate with meticulously-crafted outerwear, relaxed suiting, and tailored trousers. Not to mention, there is a fine juxtaposition between several wide-cropped tops and straight-legged bottoms.
Eye-catching items in the collections span structured jackets, rounded poplin shirts, color-blocked necklaces as well as quilted corset belts. Of course, JS’s no-nonsense aesthetic rings true throughout the distinct collections with premium cotton shirting and essential workwear garments wrapped in muted color schemes.
“Both of us feel personally attached to Jil Sander, so our vision is as much deep-rooted as it is forward-minded”, said Luke Meier. “There’s a DNA to the brand, but it’s more an approach to design than relying on specific codes – like carte blanche with context.” Lucie Meier added: “The idea is to innovate in a way that endures. We have created these pieces because we identify with them; we believe they have a soul.”
