New York-based imprint WILLY CHAVARRIA returns with a 2017 spring/summer range that honors the Brown Power Movement of the 1960s. The offering predominantly consists of oversized silhouettes constructed out of fine Peruvian fabrics. More specifically, the range includes drop shoulder jackets, deep pleated drawstring trousers, as well as knit tops emblazoned with social empowerment slogans such as “I NEED LOVE” and “BROWN POWER.” Not to mention, all the Barrio-centric fits are purveyed by street-cast models. “I’m sick of what we have considered to be “beautiful” looking people. I like to use people who show the personality of our work,” said the designer.
