‘Detroit’ Trailer Reveals the Devastating Algiers Motel Incident & Riots of 1967
“Being black is almost like having a gun pointed at your face.”
Detroit tells the emotional story behind the Algiers Motel incident where three young African-American men were killed. Directed by Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), Detriot depicts a rebellion over the course of five days during the summer of ‘67. “It’s a war zone out there. They are destroying the city,” remarks a voiceover in the trailer where fires are blazing and soldiers are swarming the massive pandemonium in the city’s streets. The film stars John Boyega (Stars Wars: The Force Awakens), John Krasinski (The Office) and Will Poulter (The Revenant).
Detroit will be released in theaters August 4 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the riots.
