Rare McLaren P1 to Be Offered at Auction With No Reserve
WIth all proceeds going to charity.
The McLaren P1 is already a storied hypercar with multiple variants and limited numbers with high demand. Name dropped and featured in video for The Weeknd’s hit single “Starboy,” it’s rare to see one of these beauties hit an auction block especially in such a unique colorway. This 2015 “Professor 2 Blue” P1 with beautiful red accent stripes, and matte black and silver finished wheels is the custom creation of a consignor who has decided to put the car on the Amelia Island auction block offered by Gooding & Company taking place on March 10. Putting a no reserve tag on the vehicle, the owner has pledged to donate the proceeds from the sale to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, his alma mater, and one of the top engineering schools in Indiana.
Affectionately nicknamed “The Professor,” the interior is one of two P1s fitted and upholstered with the design of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona’s seat pattern. A custom passenger-side vanity mirror was designed and installed by the British supercar manufacturer at the owner’s request and reads “You look beautiful,” a message to his wife. The interior console details, carbon fiber and colors were all chosen individually. Finally, the car is signed by McLaren’s design director Frank Stephenson and CEO Ron Dennis.
Expected to reach between $2-2.3 million USD, this P1 will make not only its new owner very happy but put a smile on a lot of college faces. Additional standout offerings in the loaded auction block include a slew of rare Porsches including a 1998 911 GT1 Strassenversion, 1969 Ferrari Dino 206 GT, 1990 Ferrari F40, 2003 BMW Alpina V8 Roadster, and an extremely rare 1957 Jaguar XKSS.
