Netflix has released a teaser trailer for Casting JonBenet, a documentary series that revisits the grisly murder of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, whose unsolved murder case captivated the United States back in 1996. According to Netflix, the series will focus on director Kitty Green’s efforts to “audition local actors, unpacking how each remembers and relates to the ill-fated Ramsey family.” Boasting a cast of real actors and utilizing real audition tapes, the series will investigate the open murder case’s impact on a community 20 years down the line.

Casting JonBenet is the latest in a series of true crime titles vying for viewers’ attention and acclaim: Netflix has had success with the genre in the past with shows like Making a Murderer amassing a cult-like following; HBO’s The Night Of and The Jinx captivated audiences with their grisly tales of nights and lives gone awry; FX’s American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson and ESPN’s O.J.: Made In America brought the Juice back into the popular conscience; even This American Life’s podcast phenomenon Serial is proof of the genre’s dominance in popular culture right now.

How will Casting JonBenet stack up against its competitors? Will you be tuning in? Let us know in the comments below.
