Canada Aims to Legalize Recreational Marijuana by July 2018
Under a series of proposals by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Recreational marijuana use across Canada may be legal next year and it’s all thanks to a series of proposals by Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. The incoming proposal by the liberal government aims to license cannabis growers as well as peg a national age limit of 18 years old to purchase marijuana. In addition, locals who decide to harvest their own weed will be limited to a maximum of four plants per household.
Trudeau and the Liberty Party first promised marijuana legalization during the general election back in November 2015. More notably, the PM vowed to “legalise, regulate and restrict access to marijuana” in order to keep drugs “out of the hands of children, and the profits out of the hands of criminals,” The Star reported.
Parliament will decide whether or not to enact the law by Canada Day on July 1, 2018.
