Birkenstock's Australian Headquarters Focuses on Greenery and Sustainability
The two-storey building features everything from a heritage shop to a mezzanine.
Birkenstock‘s Australian headquarters is a light-filled space in Melbourne with sustainability at its core. Inspired by the company’s core values of honesty and integrity, sustainability, quality and craftsmanship, the space features living grass floors and a rustic aesthetic. Spanning two stories with a heritage shop facade, the building consists of everything from a retail shopfront, e-commerce, wholesale, offices to showrooms, workshop, courtyard, and a warehouse with a mezzanine.
Sustainability is key, with a focus on the employees. Techniques to achieve this include use of low VOC materials, sustainable forested and recycled timber used, carbon neutral target and carefully positioned skylights to maximize sunlight.
