Warner Bros. Drops Official Trailer for Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One'
“Going outside is highly overrated.”
After some July previews, we finally get a full look at Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One.
The trailer opens with orphan Wade Watts, aka Parzival (Tye Sheridan), introducing us to his grim reality in 2045 Columbus, Ohio.
He then talks about OASIS, a virtual society with a stable cryptocurrency that functions like a MMORPG, allowing players the freedom to create their imaginative alternative reality. We soon discover the founder of OASIS has died, but not before leaving behind an Easter egg that gives authoritarian control over the entire system. Wade then teams up with his cyber-crush Art3mis (Olivia Cooke) to battle against a powerful corporation in their hunt for the egg. The trailer momentarily reveals some visually sustained action, leaving viewers questioning the nominative determinism of Watts as a hero, virtual or not.
Slated to hit theaters March 30, 2018, watch the trailer above, and be sure to keep an eye out for some of Spielberg’s references to ’80s cinema.
In related news, the movie poster is garnering some attention.
