There's a Burger Chain That Uses Facial Recognition to Remember Your Orders
“Our goal for 2018 is to replace credit card swipes with face-based payments.”
Global burger chain Caliburger uses robots to flip patties and kiosks that automatically recognize loyal patrons and remember past orders. NEC Corporation of America has teamed with Caliburger and created the machines’ artificial intelligence tech. A CaliBurger loyalty account must be created by customers in order to use the kiosk. Your face must be linked to previous orders made, and when you return and stare at the kiosk camera, your previous meal will pop up.
Currently, the kiosk is only located at their Pasadena location, but if it’s a success, they plan to roll it out in all locations starting next year. “Our goal for 2018 is to replace credit card swipes with face-based payments,” Cali Group CEP John Miller said in a statement. “Facial recognition is part of our broader strategy to enable the restaurant and retail industries to provide the same kinds of benefits and conveniences in the built world that customers experience with retailers like Amazon in the digital world.”
