Tommy Hilfiger Says Making Clothes in America Is An "Impossible Dream"

Tommy Hilfiger has recently spoken about the possibility of making clothes in America, referring to it as “an impossible dream.” Speaking to Bloomberg News, he was responding to calls for American brands to bring their manufacturing to the country.

He explains, “‘Made in America’ is very important — I would love to make everything in America if I could find the factories, they don’t exist here in America.” He also went on to note that “It’s my duty to bring the consumer the best product at the very best price.” The second note is important because, according to Otexa’s trade reports, more than 40% of clothing shipped to the USA is made in China and seven of the top 10 shippers are based in Asia. Designers have argued that creating clothing on a mass scale is no longer possible in the USA, a feeling that Hilfiger’s statements echoed.
