This Documentary Shows Us How the Best Japanese Denim Is Made

When it comes to authentic reproductions of denim, no country does it better than Japan. Weaving Shibusa is the story of Japanese artisans dedicated to their love and craftsmanship with denim. The documentary gives us unprecedented access to the industry in Japan told through the vintage denim experts themselves, the “Osaka 5.” The esteemed artisans have sourced many of the original shuttle looms that help craft denim in the traditional way making “Japanese Denim” synonymous with the highest quality possible. Weaving Shibusa, directed by Devin Leisher, takes viewers to some of the most acclaimed denim spots around the country and interviews the denim aficionados behind them.
