What Happens When You Try to Make a Documentary About Scientology?
Hacked emails, tailing and threats.
BBC journalist and documentary film maker, Louis Theroux embarked on the challenge of making a Scientology documentary knowing access to the group is strictly prohibited by journalists. Instead of making a film about infiltrating the church, he instead met with an important ex-member to reenact scenarios experienced by people of different hierarchies within. However as expected, they were met with direct confrontations and threats. The film eventually became a documentary about making a documentary, as the crew followed the various defense/threat tactics Scientology members set forth against those they saw as enemies. Check out the strange, and somewhat comical trailer above. The film is expected to screen at select Australian cinemas September 8.
