Etsy Ups the Sustainability Game With Their Ultra-Sustainable Headquarters
Could this be the most sustainable head office ever?
With sustainability the name of the game in many homes and offices around the globe, Etsy, with their new Ultra-Sustainable Headquarters, has raised the bar. To some way of thinking even, threw it over the roof. Nestled within Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood, the office itself will eventually run on locally sourced solar energy, irrigate plants from a rainwater collection system, while also featuring a horde of handmade furnishings. During its construction phase, a staggering 95% of generated waste was kept out of landfills — further validating its gloriously green environmental footprint. “We wanted to find a sustainability strategy that was aligned with the unique role that Etsy plays in commerce, and the model of production that Etsy sellers and our marketplace represent,” as put by Devon Leahy, Etsy’s director of sustainability and social innovation.
