'Monster Children' Celebrates Its 50th IssueExclusive interviews include David Lynch, Ian MacKaye, Warren Ellis and more.
Since launching back in 2003, Campbell Milligan and Chris Searl’s Australia-based Monster Children has developed a global cult following thanks to its blend of surf and skate culture and focus on art, design, music and photography — not to mention a lauded list of contributors that includes everyone from Spike Jonze, Mike D, and Jason Lee to Hedi Slimane, Anton Corbijn and more. Now, after dropping a celebratory tome back in 2013 and introducing “Longform” with Mark Gonzales last year, MC is launching its 50th issue.
Featuring a specially illustrated gatefold cover by American artist and longtime collaborator Evan Hecox, Monster Children #50 is based around the notion of “Heroes” and, thus, includes exclusive interviews with 50 different individuals near and dear to the MC crew. While the subjects include big names like skate industry icon Keith Hufnagal, fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti, artist Barry McGee, film makers Glendyn Ivin and Nabil Elderkin, legendary musicians Warren Ellis and Ian MacKaye, world champion longboarder Kelia Moniz, and Papua New Guinean-born soul singer Ngaiire, the issue also highlights a bevy of up-and-comers.
